Within Sustrans' work to create a national cycle network, artists have been commissioned to make sculpture, landmarks, earthworks, seats and stiles. The C2C cycle route from Whitehaven in Cumbria to Sunderland on Wearside is home to a series of sculptures, which punctuate the landscape.
‘Thinking of Water' is inspired by the shape of the rivulets that would have been cut into the mud of the estuary before the dam was built. This work provides a new way of looking at the environment, using the earth to create shapes that change the landscape at the same time as reflecting its history and geology.
