The Insire Project (South East Northumberland Public Art Initiative) was launched at the end of 2003 to make a significant contribution to the renaissance of South East Northumberland by improving the quality of the built and natural environments through public art and quality design.
Commissioned by SUSTRANS with the support of Inspire, 'Sweetheart Wings' is based on the history of aerial activity in the area during WWII, and the habit of fashioning keepsakes and love tokens out of pennies. The work will be sited at three locations along the Sustrans Cycle route in Wansbeck.
