Hidden Rivers: The Flowering of Lort Burn

Hidden Rivers: The Flowering of Lort Burn

The Hidden Rivers Project, launched 2002 by Newcastle City Council, has been inspired by the large numbers of small rivers - or burns - which flow towards the Tyne beneath the city.

It aims to reflect the resurgence in the use of and dependence on the river by the population of Newcastle. Public art works will be placed in strategically important locations under which the hidden rivers run.

Lort Burn, Leazes Park has inspired the sculpture titled ‘The Flowering of Lort Burn’. The work will form a carpet of steel flowers floating on a river of blue concrete, the work will trace the course if the Lort Burn through the park.
