English Heritage invited 12 of Britain’s most innovative and enigmatic fashion designers to respond to the magnificent neo-classical mansion Belsay Hall, it’s 14th century castle and grade 1 listed gardens, with art installations rather than garments.
The flagship exhibition, Fashion at Belsay (FAB) displayed their art throughout its vast empty rooms and landscaped grounds.
Shelley Fox chose to redefine the walls of Belsay Hall’s study by padding the space with freshly laundered garments pilled from floor to ceiling. The former Jerwood prize winner fuses art with fashion in the most fundamental manner.
