The 'Unity Sphere' was designed as a striking landmark on the roof line of St Peter's Square in Thornaby. The sculpture symbolises the reunification of Thornaby's community through the regeneration of the town centre and pays tribute to the town's iron and steel making heritage.
The artwork is made up of a complex network of triangular forms. Each triangle is made from high-grade stainless steel which when blown creates gaps which allow light to pass through the sculpture.
