Cragside was the revolutionary home of 19th Century inventor and industrialist Lord Armstrong. The house and estate is now the National Trust's flagship property in the North East, attracting over 160,000 visitors a year.
The 'Inside Out' programme was commissioned for summer 2006 to provide an opportunity for visitors to have an alternative experience of Cragside while the house was closed for rewiring. Six artists were commissioned to create temporary works for sites across the gardens and estate.
A four-poster bed and smaller single bed were set afloat on a lake and tarn within the estate. 'Decoy' took the theme of 'Inside Out' quite literally, looking at the physical effect and changed poetic meaning in presenting an interior object in a state of vulnerability within the outside world.
