As part of Kielder Partnership's acclaimed Art and Architecture programme Colin Wilbourn was commissioned to create a sculpture for the village of Falstone in the North Tyne Valley near the Kielder dam.
The design creates a a cosy domestic space within the form of a traditional dry stone sheepfold, or 'stell'. Two cushioned sofas with lacy antimacassars made of stone and steel face each other within the space while the rug between the sofas depicts the lost villages under the dam.
