This sculptural pavilion by Dutch artist Rob Voerman in Raby Cross, Byker was designed to test the boundaries of sculpture and architecture. The temporary structure, made of metal, wood and plexiglas turned the traditional elements of the school, house, church and shop inside out. This was a model for public art that the Byker community could use - a place for bartering, leaving messages or meeting.
'Byker Pavilion' was commissioned as part of Newcastle City Council's OffCentre Programme which introduced new artists and new forms of art to the community.
